NIne runners this week on a totally windless great night for a run. Chris Langlais led the way with a sub 31 clocking, fitting the run into the middle of his 11-mile run. Mary Ryther led the women. It was a tight finish in the low 50-minute range as four runners battled it out virtually. All of the runners actually had their fastest times of the year.

Congrats to former Friday Night regular, Connor Cobb, who won a 50K trail race in Colorado this past weekend… and it was a real race as well, not a virtual one.

Just six runners this week on a nice night to run – a full 30 degrees warmer than last week and no cold wind either. For over 20 years the Friday Night runners have been lining up to start the race at 5:30 PM, just as Reggie Barrows, the ultra-friendly FedEx driver, was also driving through Town Hall Square. He always gave a friendly wave and wished the runners well. Reggie retired last Friday so the race will go on with one less cheerful spectator at the start.

Eleven runners this week at the Friday Five. Despite the cold and icy patches and waist-deep snow, there were some fast times. OK….there was no waist-deep snow, but it was cold and there were some pretty bad icy patches. Chris Langlais chalked up the fastest time of the year with a 29:10. Henry had his best time of the year and big Al Price streaked home with a sub 50 time for his first time in a long while. It was also welcome back week as Mike Irving returned after an almost one-year absence, and former FTC VP, Craig Muscato returned as well after an almost one-year absence. Tor Clark returned also after a several-month stint on the injured reserved list.

What a change from last week at the Friday run. It was a perfect night for a run: warm, southwest tailwind, and an almost very full moon. Just ten runners showed up and just about the entire field had their fastest times of the year. It was just about a virtual tie upfront as the top two runners finished just five seconds apart despite running at different times of the day. It was welcome back night for Wally Ballou, an old-time Friday Night regular from the very beginning of the event. He returned after a 7- or 8-year absence and kept Bob Richards company. Wally is a former Friday Night Five winner from long ago.

Twenty-two runners braved the heat and humidity last Friday night for the Friday run. It was one of the largest turnouts of the year and there were runners from six different states this week, who all obviously came to town just to do the run… Lia Cressotti of Cambridge ran the course in 33:27, the fastest women’s time of the year. Al Price got pulled along by Ed Swartz and Bob Carew to his best time of the year, as he finished in 43:09.

The largest field of the year showed up this Friday, as 27 Twenty-seven runners gathered in Town Hall Square for the Friday Night run this past week.
