Hi All FRC Members,
Now that Spring has arrived, according to the calendar anyway, it’s time to consider all of our four Spring Races that are now open for registration…READ MOREE

Hi All FRC Members,
My apologies for sending this Update so late in the month, but at least I snuck it in before the end of the month. This time of year, we are mainly focused on Club races…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2024…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
This will be a short update this month (actually not as short as I thought), but with some important information. I hope everyone is adjusting to the colder weather and shorter days. Remember to wear your reflective, high-visibility gear in the dark and watch out for that black ice. Stay safe out there…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Since my last Monthly Update, a lot has occurred…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Of course, the big update for this month is the 2023 SouthCoast Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend. In my humble opinion, we just had the best Cape Cod Marathon Weekend ever. The new venue at Mullen Hall School was perfect for our event, the weather cooperated and hundreds of volunteers showed up to make sure all went well for the thousands of runners. I want to congratulate all FRC members who ran in one of the races and I want to thank all of the volunteers who worked throughout the past year and on race weekend to make our event a huge success…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Summer? What Summer? In a couple of days, it will be officially gonzo. I hope you all had some great times. The ASICS Falmouth Road Race snuck up on us and now it seems like it happened quite a while ago. That being the case, the SouthCoast Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend is less than 3 weeks away…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Where did the time go? The Falmouth Road Race is this weekend. Oh my! Good luck to all the runners and thanks to all volunteers! Most likely it will get quite warm, if not hot, out there on the course, so remember to drink early and drink often. Do not wait until you are thirsty.
Within the FRC we are focused on the SouthCoast Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
I hope you all are enjoying this nice summer weather. Most of our time now is focused on the
SouthCoast Wind Cape Cod Marathon, which will be here in about 2 1⁄2 months. We’re in great
shape at this point. There still are other activities going on including the Youth Summer Running
Camp, Walk and Talks and Couch-To-5K training…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Well, we’re done, at least when it comes to the 2023 FRC Spring Race Series. I must say I’m quite impressed by the efforts of our Race Directors, the FRC Administrator (Kathy), the Volunteers, and the Participants in all of our events…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Well, the second race of the FRC Spring Race Series is in the books. The Cape Cod Trail Races, held on April 30, was very successful. We more than doubled the registered runners from last year. You can read the details below…READ MORE

I hope you are enjoying the super Falmouth spring weather. Of course, spring is prime time for racing. Our slate of four FRC spring races is underway…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Geez, this year’s (non) winter weather will soon be a thing of the past and in a few days, spring will be upon us. Of course, this means the FRC spring races will soon be here…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Similar to a lot of people, our running club runs into a bit of a slow period during the winter. The holidays are over and the spring racing season hasn’t started yet. On the surface, it may seem like there isn’t much going on at the FRC, but like the duck on a pond that may appear to be just floating along, below the surface, the webbed feet are always doing something…READ MORE

Hi all FRC members!
Happy New Year to Everyone! I hope you all enjoyed time with family and friends during this past Holiday Season. As you’ll read in this update, our Club has achieved quite a bit over the last year…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
I hope you all are enjoying this Holiday Season. My, did this year go by fast! I was just thinking, this time last year I was a year younger…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We have a few FRC members who have recently completed marathons and one member who has raced a bit farther than 26.2 miles. We also have quite a few members who ran the Falmouth in the Fall race…READ MORE

Hi All FRC Members,
First of all, my apologies for not sending out an August/September Update. With my responsibilities with the ASICS Falmouth Road Race and directing the Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend, time just got away from me. So, there’s a lot to cover. Pardon me for including some things that are “yesterday’s news” at this point…READ MORE

C Members,
I hope you all are enjoying these warm summer days. I know many of you are planning on running in the ASICS Falmouth Road Race this year. Be careful when training out there in the heat and be sure to drink water early and often on your training runs. Before you know it, fall will be upon us, and along with that comes the Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend. Details on the progress of this event are below. We also have a few other events going on…READ MORE

Hi FRC Members,

Can you believe it? We’ve had 3 FRC races since our April Update. That’s 3 races in 29 days. Oh My! Details for the Cape Cod Trail Race, the Women Run Cape Cod 5k, and the Surf Drive Mile are below. None of these races would have been possible without the outpouring of volunteers from you, our FRC members…READ MORE

Hi FRC Members,
As we continue to march our way through the next two months of FRC hosted races, it’s good to see that more and more FRC members are volunteering at these events. Without volunteers, these races would not be able to exist, so thank you all for making them happen. We had a successful Seagull 2 Spring Classic race last month and are looking forward to the Cape Cod Trail Races this month, followed by our two new races in May, the Women Run Cape Cod 5K and the Surf Drive Mile…READ MORE

Hi FRC Members,
Most of the activity within our Club lately has been focused on the races that we will be hosting
this spring. All four of them (Seagull 6, Cape Cod Trail Race, Women Run Cape Cod 5K and the
new Surf Drive Mile) are open for registration. This is the first time we’ve had so many races
active. Please consider either running in some of the races and/or volunteering at them. As you
know, races always can use more volunteers…READ MORE

Hi FRC Members,
As we are moving away from the pandemic, The Falmouth Running Club is moving on to what looks like a much better year in 2022. Our Club races are moving along with registration currently open for 4 races, other activities are continuing, and we have established a date for the FRC Open House…READ MORE

Hi Everyone,
Yes, the year has flown by. A lot has happened over the past year and many changes have been made. I will be giving a full report of what we have accomplished this year at the FRC Annual Meeting (see below)…READ FULL PDF

Hi Everyone,
First of all, my apologies for not sending an update during October. It was a very hectic month leading up to the Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend Event, which as you all know, didn’t turn out quite the way we intended. More on that below. I do want to thank all of you who registered to volunteer at the CCM and at the recently held Falmouth in the Fall race….READ FULL PDF

Hi Everyone,
As we enter the fall season, more and more races are starting to pop on the race calendar. Just in Falmouth, we have the races of the Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon Weekend at the end of October and then two weeks later, on November 14, is Falmouth in the Fall, which is run over the same course as Augusts ASICS Falmouth Road Race…READ FULL PDF

Congratulations to those of you who ran the ASICS Falmouth Road Race. Hopefully you enjoyed
the 7 mile journey and stayed well hydrated along the way. Kudos to FRC Member and Executive
Director of the race, Jennifer Edwards and her team for the great job they did leading up to the
race and for conducting a safe event on race day. I know many of us FRC members volunteered
for numerous tasks and I’m sure the Race appreciates all of our efforts.

Coming up for the FRC in a couple of months is the Cape Cod Marathon Weekend Event….READ FULL PDF

Welcome to summer! I hope you’re staying committed to your exercise and healthy lifestyle habits these days, whether it’s running, walking, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, spinning, swimming, yoga, cross-fit, or whatever else gets you out there and keeps you motivated. If you are, congratulations! If you’re not, well, there’s no better day than today and no better time than right now to start it up again. Go get em…READ FULL PDF

Well, the biggest thing that has happened between last month’s update and this month’s is that we received final approval from the town of Falmouth to conduct the Cape Cod Marathon Weekend Event in-person without any COVID restrictions. I’ll discuss more on this, below. The second biggest thing is that the 5x5k Challenge that was conducted in May was a huge success (see the update below).

Actually, the race that Caleb Gartner recently ran may supersede both of the above…READ FULL PDF

It can’t be May, can it? I thought we were supposed to be in our new office by now. What’s up with that? I guess I’ll have to address that later in the body of this update. As the weather tries and tries to warm up and more and more people are getting vaccinated, isn’t it about time for us to ditch the masks? Looks like that will be the case real soon.

If you were on the Zoom monthly meeting on the evening of May 11, you already know that a lot is going on within and outside of the FRC… READ FULL PDF

Happy April everyone. I think I ate too many Easter Eggs, so I’m glad the FRC 5 X 5K Virtual Challenge is coming so that I’ll be a bit more focused on getting out there more frequently for a good run.

FRC membership is growing, enthusiasm is building and COVID, which has impacted all of us, hopefully is being controlled to the point where we can start getting back to doing some of the things we love. As you read this update, you’ll see that we are still limited with what we can do as a running club, however we are making great strides in some areas… READ FULL PDF

Because January’s meeting was the Annual Meeting and February’s meeting was the Special Meeting to discuss the potential running club name change, the FRC March Monthly Meeting was the first Regular FRC Monthly Meeting of the year. Our agenda was packed, so we extended the meeting 30 minutes to try to cover everything and we were able to cover most of the topics. The official minutes, once reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors will be posted on the FRC website.

It seems like a lot longer than six weeks ago that I became President of what is now the Falmouth Running Club. I’m buoyed by what I’m seeing, hearing and reading about the excitement that is creeping back into our club. A number of you have expressed interest in getting involved with some of our new initiatives and are starting to propose ideas of your own on how we can add more activities and events, add different types of merchandise and ways to enhance communications out to all club members. Please keep proposing ideas and continue to offer your willingness to participate in developing these ideas into realities… READ FULL PDF

Thank you all for the interest and enthusiasm that you displayed during the voting period on the question of whether or not to change the name of the Falmouth Track Club to the Falmouth Running Club. Also, thank you to all of the members who attended the Special Meeting last night.

Presenters from both sides of this issue made meaningful and respectful comments on why to vote for or against the name change. The questions asked by the members were thoughtful and probing, demonstrating the importance of this issue and the future of our club.

After all of the votes were tabulated by the Club Administrator, the results were sent to me this morning. The total number of votes cast was 138. 95 of those votes, representing 69% of the total, were cast in favor of making the change. 43 of the votes were cast against making the change.

So, as of this morning, February 17, 2021, the Falmouth Running Club embarks on its mission to become more vibrant, more exciting and rewarding for its members, more welcoming and attractive to potential new members and more enjoyable for everyone. Soon, we will be unveiling our new club logo.

This name change is only the first step in a long journey that will see many changes, but these changes will only come to fruition if all of us take part in the journey together. As President of the club, I look forward to working with the members of the Board of Directors and all of our members to make our club the best it can be.

Respectfully,

Jack Afarian
President
Falmouth Running Club

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend last night’s Zoom Annual Club Meeting. Hopefully we’ll be fortunate enough to be able to hold next year’s meeting in person.

2020 was a tough year for many people and many organizations, including the Falmouth Track Club. All of the races that the club would conduct in a normal year, including the Seagull 6, Cape Cod Trail Races, The Main Street Mile and the Cape Cod Marathon Weekend Event, had to be cancelled. Other activities that the Club normally conducts, such as the Friday Night 5 Miler, Youth School Running Program, Youth Competitive Running Program and Wednesday workouts, were either scaled back or cancelled. The biggest loss to the Club was the cancellation of the Cape Cod Marathon Weekend Event… READ FULL PDF
